I have just a few updates since my last post so this’ll be nice and quick.
First, I’ve come to the conclusion that the Artist’s Loft sketchbook I use isn’t actually great for watercolor on a continuous basis. It’s very easy to overwork the paint and small details don’t hold up very well. The first few paintings I was doing came out very well, because the art style was pretty simplistic and I wasn’t using a lot of layering. Unfortunately that’s not the only kind of style I’m trying to work with (I’m still exploring different styles because I’m not very good and don’t have my own style yet!) so the paint isn’t gonna really work all the time. I think maybe for simpler one-off type projects it should be okay, but for more complex pieces I’m going to stick to marker or try to explore colored pencil.
Also, I’ve started (slowly) working on a new project: I’m handmaking sketchbooks that I’ll be selling on Etsy if they come out well. I don’t have an ETA on the first batch yet, but they should hopefully be available by the end of February. They’ll have dark green covers and perpetual dated pages (each two-page spread will be a week long) for people to use as perpetual journals if they want. (Subsequent batches will have different details.)
Finally, I’ve been working a ton so I haven’t had a lot of energy or opportunity to do much else. But I’m making that money and hope to use it for some fun things in the future, including more supplies for making sketchbooks and journals. And, of course, paying my bills, haha. So that’s pretty much what I’ve been up to!
Hello and welcome to the end of the holidays that I celebrate (barring New Year's of course)! My gift giving and receiving has gone fairly spectacularly, I believe. I do have a friend who is still awaiting his gift from me bc the first place I tried to order it from was out of stock, but I found it somewhere else and it should arrive by year's end so I'm happy with that.
I have run through the entirity of Tubi's Columbo catelog in under a month which I think is pretty impressive but I was also sick home from work for several days during this time so that's probably a factor.
Aside from finding and making gifts for my pals, I've been spending a lot of my time working, and playing Dwarf Fortress. (Which the Steam release is responsible for a lot of my remembering to play it, I have not purchased it [yet]; I play using the Lazy Newb Pack which is very good imho.)
I'm pretty much just chugging along. Still knitting, still sketching and painting, still evolving.
I'm just gonna talk with myself through the things I want to do with this site. It keeps changing ha ha but that's okay.
- figure out a least painful way to setup image-posting potential
- figure out what to put in the footer
- and the sidebar, for that matter
- tags? "tags"?
- figure out the difference between tags and categories
- I'm still not convinced there is one except perhaps in individual practice
- work up the css for bigger-than-mobile screens (make the sidebar be on the side for instance)
- figure out if I intend to stick with this color palette (I'm pretty sure I do, but I have also been known to be very mercurial about these things)
- most importantly: actually post stuff on it!
And that might be it. (But probably not.)
