I’ve recently come back from a few months’ long break, and I’d like to say my hiatus has been a busy one. Certainly the holidays were busy, at least. I think that’s enough for anyone to need a break. But here we are bursting into 2017! And I’m back with some better structure, a new layout, and some groovy essential oils that are helping my sniffer keep me on the sunny side. (Rose oil is ultimate happiness, I swear it is!)
So what have I been up to?
Well obviously part of my time has been spent creating this new layout. It’s so purple and fun! I’m in love. I’m also going to have it up for download soon, so if you love it as much as I do and have a WordPress website of your own, be on the lookout for that! 😉
Busy & Spoonless
A lot of my time has been spent in the cycle of work-to-bed-to-work-to-bed. My workplace was excessively busy during the holidays and I was left even more burnt out than usual. I spent a lot of my off time just trying to relax and recharge (with mixed results).
Busy On Twitter
I quit a few of my go-to social platforms at the end of last year. Since then I’ve been digging Twitter a lot. I haven’t quite gotten into fully participating in all of the great spoonie community functions on there. But I’m learning a lot and following some great and interesting folks!
You can find me over there as @thealexidavis.
Busy For the Holidays
While I did celebrate Christmas this year with my partner’s Christian family, I also did private rituals for my own religion’s celebrations. One in particular involved an offering that was very dear to my heart, Mother’s Night. On this night, Heathens honor the spirits of our women ancestors and mothers in general. As a transgender person estranged from my own mother, in the past I’ve had mixed feelings about this holiday, but this year I was able to feel a real connection to the spirits themselves. I offered mead and whiskey – “For love, and for strength” – as well as rose oil and an all-night candle vigil. It was a very moving experience and I’m grateful that I took the time to celebrate this year.
Christmas itself was a lot less stressful than I had anticipated. My partner’s family were all very cheerful and welcoming, and I enjoyed myself a lot during the celebrations we attended. I was presented with a bunch of wrestling-themed gifts from my beau and a lot of chocolate from everyone else – no complaints! – and the gifts I gave were accepted in great happiness, so I considered the holiday a success.
What does the future hold?
With a new layout and some new features being added, you might be wondering what comes next for me and the site? Well, here’s a few things I’m working on…
As you may have noticed, I’ve got a new feature called the Weekend Wrapup. This is gonna be a weekly post I make just detailing a few things that have been interesting me for the week. Super casual, but I think it’s important to take note of the things that make ya smile, and this is my way of keeping track as well as sharing what’s been giving me some bliss this week.
Unfortunately for some, expect a good deal of pro-wrestling content. 😅 I’m a sucker for the stuff these days.
Fauxdori? Don’t mind if I Fauxdo!
Stationary fans might know about the popular Midori Traveler’s notebook (not to be confused with Midori liquor, which is delicious). If you’re not familiar, Ian Hedley over at PenPaperPencil.net has a great write up of the productivity tool. Most who are familiar do know about the high price point for a genuine Midori, causing many fans to instead use off-brand, cheaper alternatives, inventively referred to as “Fauxdoris”.
Well I’ve thrown my hat in the ring as a Fauxdori maker and I hope to have some up for sale within the next three months. I’ll be keeping y’all in the loop about that as things progress, and will probably be selling them on Etsy when I get to that point. Keep an eye out!
College is marching on
Last week began the start of my third term of online courses with SNHU. This term I’m taking courses on Human Relations and Perspectives in the Social Sciences. Only a week and a half in, I’m already super interested in both of my classes and I’m doing my best productivity & planning work to make sure I get everything done! I have yet to pick my bullet journal back up, but… I’m getting there. 😉
All of these great projects are going to take a lot of time and effort, especially for my spoonie self, but I’m committed to making them work and doing the best I can going forward.
